So which is better the iPad or Galaxy Tab? The iPad was the first mainstream tablet to hit the shelves, and where one manufacturer shown success the others are bound to follow.
In this blog post I take a look at the two tablets and look at the differences.

Apple iPad vs Samsung Galaxy Tab

Let’s step through some of the pros and cons of the Galaxy Tab vs iPad:

iOS vs Android 2.2
People have high hopes for the new version of android and the Tab will be one of the first devices to make the most of it. The iPad is however stuck on an older version of iOS although rumours suggest an upgrade is on the way.

As we know, Apple like to keep control of what runs on their products and the more open Android could be a big draw for many. Both have established “app stores” ensuring there will be plenty of software to run from day one.

The Samsung Tablet wil be able to run Flash, and possibly even HD video.

10″ Tablet vs 7″ Tablet
I have always thought the iPad looks much bulkier than it should, and many believe that Apple will be following up the first model with a 7″ version next year.

As a netbook owner, the smaller device seems attractive as it will position itself nicely between a smart phone and mini laptop.  It just seems a more appropriate size to me but until I get to play on a smaller tablet I won’t know for sure.

The absolute size and weight of the Tab is of course unknown, but it will surely be easier to pocket than the iPad!

Resolution
Early rumours suggested the Galaxy Tab would have a lower resolution, pitching it beneath the iPad’s 1024×768 screen. Recent reports are suggesting 1024×600 but we won’t know for sure until Samsung release the official specs.

Camera
The iPad lacks any kind of camera, the Samsung Tablet is going to have one on the front and back (for still pics and video chat). The cynical have suggested that this omission was intentional – ensuring that the iPad 2.0 could be sold to existing Apple fans – but who knows?
